Link Cut Comparison

There are almost as many tools and ways to cut links as there are people making mail. Everyone has his or her favorites, and no one single tool is perfect for all materials. Before I learned about the jeweler's slotting saw, I used a number of different tools to cut my links, most recommended to me by fellow craftsmen. These pictures show cuts made by all the cutting tools I own, magnified to show the differences. In cases where one side of the link looks better than the other, I show the worst side. As you can see, many of these tools make fine cuts which are for the most part very clean. However, my perfectionist nature shuns all of these tools in favor of the saw-cut link. Judge for yourself!
